At a year and a half, Aubrey was diagnosed with Kabuki Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that affects 1 out of 32,000 births worldwide. Aubrey’s symptoms attributed from Kabuki Syndrome include global development delay, low muscle tone, feeding difficulties which require her to be fully fed via a gastronomy tube, astigmatism, seizures during infancy, non verbal, and more recently diagnosed with Autism.
Aubrey began attending Easterseals at age 3 in August 2022. Since attending, Aubrey has progressed so much with her development, including becoming more independent with everyday tasks and activities, and being able to express her needs and wants nonverbally.
While at Easterseals, Aubrey has been able to obtain an AAC device to help with communication, braces to help correct foot pronation, hearing exams, and weekly therapy sessions with PT, OT, and Speech.
If you were to ask any of Aubrey’s teachers or therapists what Aubrey likes most about school, they would tell you that she likes any toy that lights up or plays music, any object that has a touch screen, and the swing in the Physical Therapy room.
As Aubrey's parents say, "Kabuki Syndrome affects each individual differently, we know Aubrey will require special education, multiple therapies, and assistance with everyday activities throughout childhood and potentially adulthood. We are so grateful that Easterseals can provide Aubrey and our family with the support and resources she will need to succeed in life."
