Easterseals Partner in Equity Event to Honor Rory and Rosi Cooper from HERL

Easterseals Western and Central Pennsylvania’s 2nd annual Partner in Equity event will honor Rory and Rosi Cooper November 6 at University of Pittsburgh’s Human Engineering Research Laboratories (HERL), Bakery Square. The event honors local professionals who share Easterseals vision, ensuring individuals with disabilities can live with equity, inclusion, and access.

Married for over 40 years, Rory and Rosi Cooper are a dynamite force for change in the disability community. Rory Cooper, Ph.D. is the Director of Human Engineering Research Laboratories (HERL), a collaboration with Veterans Affairs and University of Pittsburgh where the mission is to continuously improve the mobility and function of people with disabilities through advanced engineering in clinical research and medical rehabilitation. He is a distinguished professor at multiple universities, he holds over 25 patents, he has authored numerous books, he has won many awards, and he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. He also serves on Easterseals National board of directors. Rory uses his own experiences as a paraplegic to invent new and improved wheelchair technology for people with disabilities. Rosi Cooper has devoted her career to rehabilitation technology, particularly wheelchair technology and use. She is an instructor at both the University of Pittsburgh in the School for Health and Rehabilitation Science and the Department of Rehabilitation Science Technology. Rosi is a Clinical Coordinator at HERL and she is a Clinical Instructor/Wheelchair Seating Clinician at the UPMC Center for Assistive Technology. Rosi has been a longtime member of Easterseals Western and Central Pennsylvania board of directors.
