James G. Bennett earned his Bachelor of Arts from Slippery Rock University and his Master of Education from the University of Pittsburgh. He began his career with Easterseals Western and Central Pennsylvania in 1978 as a teacher in the organization’s school program.
Jim was named President and Chief Executive Officer in 2014 after serving in various roles throughout the organization. In his role as President and CEO, he is responsible for the oversight of all programs and services, which span early childhood intervention, residential supports, vocational and employment services, therapeutic recreation, interpreting services, and community-based placements for individuals with disabilities.
Throughout his tenure, Jim has been instrumental in the growth and diversification of Easterseals' offerings. He led the development of employment programs that have created job opportunities and generated funding through federal and state contracts. He also oversaw the launch of the organization’s first adult day services location, managed the renovation and relocation of its headquarters, and played a central role in the merger of the Western and Central Pennsylvania affiliates.
In addition, Jim has served as a leader on numerous national and local boards focused on disability services, workforce inclusion, and community development. Through these roles, he has helped shape policy and practice in the field and remains an active voice in advancing opportunities for people with disabilities across the Commonwealth and beyond.
